YOU Belong Here!
Vine’s Mission is to connect people to Jesus Christ so that their lives may bear God’s eternal fruit. We do that through opportunities to Connect, Grow, & Bear Fruit.
Welcome Statement
Vine Church invites every person to connect to God through Jesus Christ, grow in faith, and bear fruit through service and love of neighbor.
People of Vine Church strive to unconditionally respect and love one another as we share our faith journeys. Our faith experiences are diverse – including having no faith experience, having previous experience with other religions or denominations of Christianity, being hurt by the church and staying away, or practicing faith without participating in a church. Together we seek a community of faith where friendship, belonging, growth, and service happen.
We affirm, value, and support people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, races, national origins, ethnic or cultural backgrounds, physical and mental conditions, marital statuses, family configurations, economic situations, and appearances.
Everyone belongs at Vine Church.
What We Believe
A United Methodist Church, the Vine is part of a global denomination that opens hearts, opens minds and opens doors through active engagement with our world. The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today. Land Acknowledgement
Vine Church exists on the ancestral homelands of the Doeg or Tauxenent, Manahoac, and Piscataway Nations. These lands and waterways provided them with sustenance, shelter, medicines, and holds their songs, language, stories, and way of life. Our Indigenous relatives nourished, supported, raised, and built communities of people beloved and created by God.
When the first colonial settlers arrived on these lands, the Doeg (Tauxenent), Manahoac, and Piscataway Nations contributed immensely to their ability to survive – and eventually thrive. Despite this truth, these and other Indigenous people were forced off their lands through acts of political policies, warfare, and genocide. We now confront the outcomes of unjust treatment, broken treaties, and the harm caused by our community’s past complicity with policies of cultural and physical genocide as we seek reconciliation with Indigenous Nations.
Vine Church also acknowledges the Chickahominy Indian Tribe, Chickahominy Indian Tribe—Eastern Division, Monacan Indian Nation, Nansemond Indian Nation, Pamunkey Indian Tribe, Rappahannock Tribe, Inc., and Upper Mattaponi Tribe as the current sovereign Tribal Nations of the State of Virginia and the Patawomeck and Nottaway, past, present, and emerging.
With a spirit of love, humility, and openness, Vine Church pledges to do the hard work of reflection and truth-telling to move toward transformative healing and build a future community that honors the sacred worth and value of all of God’s people. We commit to listening and valuing the stories and experiences of our neighbors so that we might be a place where all are welcomed and valued.
